Chester French Associate Lukas Kaiser Featured on ArjanWrites!

Posted by chesterfrench on Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Arjan, one of our absolute favorite music writers out there, has been incredibly kind to us during our time out. In fact, he was one of the first bloggers to embrace the Chester French movement. He’s always been at the forefront of great new music (he was a particularly early adopter of Ms. Janelle Monae as well) so we always make sure to check out his site.

And it was a great surprise to wake up and find our very, very good friend Lukas Kaiser’s new mixtape (“the LOLtape“) was featured on Arjan’s site! Arjan says:

Check out a hot, hot, hot little mixtape by the very talented Lukas Kaiser who put together some of his own instrumental tracks to share with the world. The mixtape is a collection of mid-tempo tracks that can best be described as a freewheeling blend of punchy electro with contemporary hip hop textures. It’s super fresh.

My favorite tracks include the instantly catchy “Yes, Computer” (love the chorus), the groovy  “Kung Fu Alley,”  the pulsing “Fat” and the glistening “Bone” that features some delicious synth licks. Love how that last track breaks down into the chorus.

Kaiser, who is good friends with D.A. of Chester French, has been composing music for TV and film, including work for the Chapelle Show, several MTV reality shows and the John Waters’ film, This Filthy World. He is currently also co-producing the debut album from Harvard rapper Sliggitay and working with a new reggae artist, named Mr. Lee G.

I love this stuff, Mr. Kaiser. Bring us more of this.

Super, super sick mention! Bloggers, music writers, music fans etc. follow in Arjan’s lead and check out Lukas’ very excellent mixtape NOW!

More Large Professor? Why Not

Posted by chesterfrench on Thursday, January 29th, 2009

This isn’t even a song or anything like that. Large Professor sits in with Queens rapper Killa Sha while Sha freestyles and answers interview questions. Large Pro is zoning out like a mofo here. Also, his beard needs a little “Just For Men.” Extra P, why didn’t you drop a gem on ‘em?

The Genealogy of Mobb Deep

The T.R.O.Y. Blog has posted their first in a multi-part series tracing the roots of Queens legends Mobb Deep. For any true blue hip-hop fan, it’s a must read.

And here’s “Shook Ones Part 2,” just for good measure.

Video Flashback (sorta): Skillz, Q-Tip & Large Professor – “Extra Abstract Skillz”

Posted by chesterfrench on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

More Large Pro heat, this time with verses by Q-Tip and Skillz. Not entirely sure when this track dropped, but it’s a diamond in the rough, regardless. It’s just audio though, so not really a full video flashback.
