Syracuse Professor Promotes Jacques Jams

Posted by chesterfrench on Monday, April 13th, 2009

This is pretty crazy, but frickin’ awesome nonetheless.

Meet Syracuse University student named Gabby. Gabby’s in the Bandier Program for Music and Entertainment Industries and is taking a class on music promotion and sent this note to her professor, David Rezak, who also happens to be the head of Syracuse’s Music Industry program:

“There is a new band called Chester French and I think the way they have been marketing themselves is very, very cool. They are signed to Star Trak, which is infamous for failing to promote their artists properly. Chester French are 2 guys from Harvard and decided from day 1 to be the most accessible band to their fans. They didn’t have much of a following, but were popular with other famous musicians. What they’ve done is made themselves famous using Twitter to get followers. Now, this week, using Twitter, they are releasing a FREE album featuring some of the biggest artists in the world. Then in April they are releasing another album. So really, this mixtape is their marketing tool. I’m not sure why but I just think this is such a cool way to get word out, they went from about 4,000 Twitter followers to almost 12,000 in the past fortnight. After every concert, they spend 2 hours outside the venue on the street trying to sell their EP to concertgoers. Then, they throw a party for their fans to get to know them. They answer every single e-mail they get, and they update blogs daily. I think they understand how to use technology these days to keep the fan happy. Check this out http://www.chesterfrench.com/mixtape/.”

Professor Rezak sent the email (with the link to “Jacques Jams, Vol 1: Endurance”) to his entire department (!!) and encouraged them to spread the word themselves.

Now all you guys have to do is share THIS story on twitter (and Facebook, and via email) and the vortex of Twitter promotion will be complete! Remember, you can follow us on twitter as well.

We’re SO pleased by everyone’s help with promoting the mixtape. Let’s keep this up!

DA’s Twitter Usage Gets Mentioned on MTV News

Posted by chesterfrench on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Apparently, someone at MTV is following DA. Hilarious! Here’s the quote:

“Some bigger artists opened up accounts only to neglect them. Lil Wayne’s last tweet was on December 7, 2007, when he was “chilling.” He’s been a little bit busy since then

Other artists, however, are using Twitter to their advantage. Asher Roth can update his fans about the release of his “I Love College” video. Chester French’s D.A. Wallach tells his followers that he’s on his way to his sister’s choir concert (and that Lil Wayne’s “Prom Queen” “is really bad”).”

Check out the whole article (with numerous links to other artists’ twitter pages) right here.

As you guys may know, we’re going on tour with Lady GaGa very soon (you can check out the tour dates here).

To celebrate, and to get some people signing up to follow DA on Twitter, we’ve decided to offer some backstage passes to one individual, who will be picked at random.

Here’s the challenge: we’re pushing for 1000 new followers on DA’s Twitter page. Once we hit 1000, we’ll pick one person out of the thousand new followers at random to get the free tickets and backstage passes.

Pretty easy, huh?

So get to it!
